About

Meet your Counsellor
Nikneet Sethi

My passion for the mental health industry began as an Undergraduate student in India where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I then moved to Australia to obtain a Master of Counselling from QUT.

My experience working with organisations including 1800Respect and with a diverse range of clients means I am well placed to provide support as a domestic violence and sexual assault counsellor and to work with individuals who have experienced complex trauma.

When we meet, I will explain my approach, which is a combination of acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative and solution-focused therapy.

“As your counsellor, I believe in seeing the full you, as you really are—beyond any issues, trauma, or labels you may carry.”

WHY “THE EMPTY CHAIR?”

The Empty Chair technique used in counselling is designed to help you address unresolved emotions and conflicts in a meaningful way.

By imagining a conversation with an empty chair, whether it represents a person not present or a part of yourself you want to explore, you have the chance to externalise your challenges and begin to overcome them.

This approach allows you to see "the problem" as something outside of yourself, rather than something that defines you. It’s a powerful tool for moving toward acceptance and closure, and it aligns with the core belief: you are not your problem.
